Her Place is In
I am the Creative Program Manager at HPII. I am so proud to be a part of this organization. HER PLACE IS IN an art and social action/ campaign that empowers women and is dedicated to providing art, service, support, and resources for women of all backgrounds in the community. We are Activist in the community who are dedicated to celebrating women through art and photography. Injustice pervades our society, and while it is important never to disregard it, a powerful strategy for change is the celebration of what is good. Change can be colorful, loud, and full of love. Her Place is in is an art and social movement/ campaign that was created by 10 friends in the Bay Area. HER PLACE IS IN is based out of Oakland, Ca.
Her Place is in provides a safe space, for women of all backgrounds, to celebrate each other through photography exhibitions, panel discussion, and community service. We are committed to creating a shift in the world by highlighting social change. While making change in the world we have been recognized by some A+ powerhouses like Taraji P. Henson, National Geographic, Nat Geo Brazil, StreetArtGloble, Dove, Art Select, and 1000’s more. We have made an impact with our voice and are excited to create more projects. We’ve taken a term commonly used to put women down (“her place is in the home/silence/a sexual object”) and used it to highlight all of the amazing and powerful places women are beginning to emerge (but have always been) in society and the workplace. This is a celebration of everything that makes you feel the most “you”. No borders, no blocks, no social constructs or stereotypes.
The inspiration of Her Place Is In, all started at a Miguel’s concert, where my friends won tickets. My friends and I were walking around the Miguel’s concert, 10 women of all different backgrounds, shapes, and sizes getting so much attention. Yeah we were cute but we felt safe together, strong together, and empowered; which shined every step we took around that stadium.
It is important for all women to have a safe space to feel empowered. Her Place is in was created by fate, love, and passion. Building community with a diverse group of women and supporting community through social action has been a life changing experience especially in 2020 because not only do you have the support of multiple women but you gain the voice to impact the world.
We are so excited to continue our work and because this year has been so crazy and we did not create a big yearly photo we have some other ways that we are connecting including launching a podcast that will be coming soon so be on the lookout, ya girl will using her voice as usual, so be on the lookout!
